NORTHERN HILLTRIBES & JUNGLES 13 DAYS

(tour can start from Luang Phabang + 1 day for traveling to Houay Xai).

Meet at Houay Xai/Chiang Khong for the start of this wonderful adventure travel package in Northern Laos. We'll start driving in private car to Vieng Phouka, a small village along the way. Whilepassing villages and beautiful landscape you can stop to explore a few villages. Especially the one of the Lanten people who still wear their traditional blue cloths are very interesting. 

If time permits we take a small orientation walk through the small town. 

Trekking to the Akha (The Akha Trail) in the region of Vieng Phouka. An early start allows you to see the Akha villages in the region along traditional walking trails. Depending on season, your guide will choose one of the trails in the region. Walking hours around 5+ hours daily. Overnight at Akha family home stay. 

After the second day of trekking through some forests and hills in the region of Vieng Phouka you may arrive back after lunch time. Another stretch of road will lead you partly through the Nam Ha protected area to Luang Namtha: the next destination. From here we return to Vieng Phouka and take another overnight in Vieng Phouka.

If time permits we can also travel onwards to Luang Namtha where better facilities are available

Before we leave to our next destination we have a short look around the plateau of Luang Namtha. A nice mountain stupa and temple awaits us with some views of the region. Drive through the Nam Ha protected zone to the plateau of Muang Sing near the Chinese border one of the last frontiers in Laos.

After arrival in Muang Sing we take the chance to explore the small town with it's little market as well as the local ethnic museum. Overnight stay in local guest house

In the morning we start the hiking tour to ethnic minority villages and the surrounding mountains. On this one day trek we have the chance to learn more about the ethnic groups in the nearby mountains of Muang Sing which seem to be quite different from the ones we have met before. From the top of a mountain we have an excellent view of the Muang Sing valley. Then we walk on to meet Akha Puli people and have lunch at the village, after that we return down to see one more Akha village before returning back to Muang Sing. Night in Muang Sing

In the afternoon we take the time for a short city walk, waterfall visit or biking tour. It's best to discover Luang Namtha with a small bike ride, so prepare to use different muscles.

An early morning rise to visit the local market where you can see the local villagers with their traditional dresses selling & trading their locally produced goods. After breakfast, drive through some dramatic landscape to Nong Khiaw, visiting local H’mong and Khmu minority tribes along the way. Enjoy the afternoon to relax or take a stroll along the river bank or just relax and watch the sunset, overnight at a local guesthouse

Starting with a peaceful boat ride on the Nam Ou you will be able to explore a small Lao village along the river before heading into the waterfalls. Walking through small streams and rice paddies you approach the 100 waterfalls which were first explored in October 2008!!

The next few hours you will see only water and jungle and hear the sound of clear waterfall cascades small pools all around you inviting for a refreshing splash. Lunch will be served along the way. After your adventure you will walk back to the river and arrive after another boat ride in the afternoon in Nong Khiaw. Night in guest house

Today we take the time to join a relaxing journey down to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang. On our 7 hour boat cruise downstream to Luang Prabang we see great landscapes and river sceneries and explore the natural way of life along the river banks. Enjoy this not so active day.

Late afternoon arrival and overnight stay in hotel in Luang Prabang. Take your time to walk through the colorful night market 

Breakfast. Visit some sight seeings in the town. Visit the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum. Continue to Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-relief. Continue to the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre, a museum dedicated to exploring the rich diversity of Laos’ ethnic minorities.  Traditional costumes, tools, and artifacts are on display alongside in-depth descriptions and written histories. It is a great opportunity to gain insight in to the Lao people (note: closed on Monday). 

Tonight we enjoy farewell dinner at Indochina Spirit restaurant with Lao Traditional dance show.

Overnight in Luang Prabang. 

After your breakfast, free time at leisure. Your guide and private car will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the airport for your departing flight.
